NAPLAN Growth
Tea Gardens Public School students have performed well in the last round of NAPLAN testing, achieving above average gains in numeracy and aspects of literacy in the areas of reading and spelling.
Mark Clemson, school principal praised the collective efforts of students and staff for the results. "It's great to see the hard work starting to pay off. These results are fantastic for the school and community as a whole."
Mr Clemson said that the school has had an ongoing focus on striving for excellence in student learning and school culture. In addition, the school has been targeting an ongoing commitment to build teacher capacity through professional learning and building authentic quality relationships with the community. "Ultimately it's about improving teacher capacity through ongoing professional learning and getting the foundations for learning right." Mr Clemson said this was being achieved at Tea Gardens by embedding all the different syllabus documents and the creation of a quality learning program at the school with programs like Targeted Early Numeracy (TEN), Language Learning and Literacy (L3), Reading Recovery, Focus on Reading (FoR) and Making Up Lost Time with Literacy (MULTILIT).
Tea Gardens Public School has engaged additional staff in 2016 to maintain this focus on building teacher capacity. Mrs Booth has been employed as the school Teaching and Learning coordinator to develop and build on the skills of staff through modelled teaching, providing feedback and suggestions to improve future teaching and learning.
In any school, the core focus is on improving student learning outcomes and here at Tea Gardens, we are no different.
"I want more, I strive for more from our staff – we need to have high expectations for our students and for our school. Our ultimate goal needs to be that we as a school community are able to achieve above average gains consistently and strive for excellence across all areas of schooling," Mark Clemson said.
"We are creating our future day after day."
