Grand Parents Day 2016
On Friday 4th March, the students of Tea Gardens Public School celebrated and paid tribute to their grandparents and grand-friends. Around 250 grandparents and friends were treated to a wonderfully grand assembly which included skits, raps, songs and dances. During the assembly, Mr Clemson, the school principal, addressed the crowd, recalling events from his father's youth with his grandparents and declaring the importance of sharing family history with the grandchildren, so that it may be passed on to future generations.
Mr Clemson noted that "Stories of the past shape who we are. Shape our identity. Stories that you tell your kids and grandkids are vital; they connect us not only with the past and present but also our future." He also had a special message for the students in the audience "Children, spend time with your grandparents. Listen to the stories, learn from them. Share time with them. Love them."
Following the entertainment, grandparents and friends were invited to visit the classrooms and share in the learning experiences of their grandchildren. It also gave them an opportunity to see work on display, bookwork and discuss with the students what school was like for them.
Following the open classrooms, the grandparents and friends were treated to a light luncheon, provided with the support of the canteen volunteers.
Thank you to all the grandparents and friends who travelled from far and wide, to share in the education of their grandchildren and special friends.
