This year Kindergarten students at Tea Gardens have been powering through a new English program called ‘L3' – Language, Literacy and Learning. The program is designed to accelerate and support all students to become successful readers and writers. The program is based around the latest world-wide studies, where students work in small groups of three and are explicitly taught the skills and knowledge involved in reading, writing and comprehending. Quality literature is used to support this program. Our kindergarten teachers were very keen to be trained, and both Mrs Andrews and Mrs Booth have enjoyed sharing the developmental success of their students with parents and their colleagues, since its inception this year.
Kindergarten to Year Two staff, also trained last year in the latest teaching numeracy techniques, are using the TEN (Targeting Early Numeracy) Program, within their classrooms. This program, like L3, supports all students in becoming successful mathematicians, with students working in small individualised groups to build mental skills and knowledge when working mathematically. This program encourages practical skills that are related to everyday problems encountered by students.
Tea Gardens Public School is looking forward to continuing these successful programs in the future. Both these programs support the Best Start initiatives that have been embedded into our school programs for the past five years.
The school is now enrolling students for the 2015 Kindergarten intake. Parents are most welcome to contact the school office for an enrolment package on 49970286 or make an appointment to learn more about these wonderful programs.
