Tea Gardens Public School doing the Macarena
Paint the Town Read was devised by an Australian teacher from Parkes, Rhonda Brain. Rhonda recognised the strong link of reading in young children and literacy. She brought together a team of local organisations and people to implement the program which would go on to involve the whole community. The community is involved through decorating shopfronts, dressing up in red and storytelling events.
Since its launch in October 1996, Paint the Town Read has been implemented by many communities in Australia and overseas. Primarily it raises the importance of reading, with each child given a book at the beginning of the program.
We are involving our Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest businesses and local community in our Paint the Town Read.
